Choosing the right display case is one of the most important decisions for any retail store. The wrong case means poor product visibility, wasted floor space, or inadequate security. We have outfitted 278+ retail stores across Texas and nationwide โ from smoke shops to jewelry stores to clothing boutiques โ and this guide distills what we have learned about which display cases work best for each situation.
Full vision cases have glass on all four sides and the top, offering a complete 360-degree view of products. They are the most versatile display case type and work in virtually every retail setting.
Pros
Cons
Best for: Jewelry stores, electronics retailers, collectible shops, museums
Price range: $350 โ $800
Our verdict: The gold standard for displaying high-value items. If you want customers to see your products from every angle, full vision is the way to go.
Extra vision cases feature taller glass panels (40-44 inches vs. 38 inches standard), maximizing the viewable display area. The extra height accommodates more shelves and taller products.
Pros
Cons
Best for: Smoke shops, vape stores, pawn shops, trophy and collectible retailers
Price range: $400 โ $900
Our verdict: The best choice when you need to display as much merchandise as possible in a compact footprint. Especially popular with smoke shops โ we have used these in 338+ smoke shop buildouts.
Corner cases are designed to fit where two showcase runs meet at a 90-degree angle. They fill otherwise wasted corner space and create a seamless L-shaped or U-shaped display counter.
Pros
Cons
Best for: Any store with L-shaped or U-shaped counter layouts, jewelry stores, smoke shops
Price range: $300 โ $600
Our verdict: Essential for any store using an L-shaped or U-shaped counter layout. Skipping corner cases leaves gaps that look unfinished and waste valuable display space.
Wall cases mount against or stand flush against the wall, providing display storage without consuming floor space. They are taller than countertop cases and visible from across the store.
Pros
Cons
Best for: Gun stores, trophy rooms, behind-the-counter merchandise, collectibles
Price range: $500 โ $1,200
Our verdict: The go-to for stores that need secure, visible display behind the counter or along walls. Gun stores and pawn shops use these heavily for high-value items that need both visibility and security.
Countertop cases sit on top of existing counters, tables, or checkout stands. They are compact, portable, and perfect for highlighting small high-margin items near the point of sale.
Pros
Cons
Best for: Checkout counter add-on displays, small retail spaces, trade shows, pop-ups
Price range: $50 โ $250
Our verdict: Every retail store should have at least one countertop display near the register for impulse purchases. They are affordable and consistently increase average order value.
For most retail stores, we recommend starting with 2-3 full vision or extra vision cases as your main display, adding a corner case if your layout warrants it, and placing a countertop case at checkout. This combination covers 90% of retail display needs and is the setup we have used in the majority of our 278+ store buildouts.
Commercial display cases range from $50 for basic countertop cases to $1,200+ for large wall cases. The most popular full-vision showcases cost $350-$800. Buying multiple cases together often qualifies for bulk pricing discounts.
TX Store Fixtures sells commercial display cases online with same-day shipping from our Dallas, TX warehouse. We carry full vision, extra vision, corner, wall, and countertop cases. We also offer complete store buildout packages if you need to outfit an entire store.
Based on our experience with 278+ store buildouts: smoke shops average 3-5 cases, jewelry stores average 4-8 cases, pawn shops average 5-10 cases, and small boutiques average 2-3 cases. The right number depends on your merchandise volume and floor plan.
Most full vision and extra vision showcases include built-in LED strip lighting. LED lights dramatically improve product visibility and are especially important for jewelry and glass merchandise. If your case does not include lighting, LED light kits can be added as an accessory.
Extra vision display cases are the most popular choice for smoke shops because the taller glass panels maximize product display area. Most smoke shops use 3-5 extra vision cases along the front counter, plus wall cases behind the register. Locking doors are essential for tobacco and vape product security.
