An Honest Comparison
You’re pricing shelving for an opening or a refit, and the used lots in Dallas are cheaper than anything new. Here’s the straight version of when that’s the right call and when it costs you more than it saves.

If you’re shelving a stockroom, or you already run a specific brand and a local teardown of that same brand comes up, buy used — you’ll spend less and nobody sees it. If you’re building a customer-facing sales floor where finishes need to match, depths need to be specific, and you have a hard open date, used starts working against you fast. Most Dallas buildouts end up mixed: used in the back, new on the floor.
| New (ours) | Used / liquidation | |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront cost | Higher upfront; you’re buying uniform inventory and a known delivery | Typically costs less upfront, sometimes a lot less — that’s the real advantage |
| Condition & lifespan | Powder-coated commercial steel, unmarked, full life ahead of it | Varies lot to lot: scuffs, fading, rust at the base, bent shelf lips, tired uprights |
| Matching a full floor | Consistent black or white uprights and matched slatwall finish across every run | Very hard once you’re past one teardown; two lots rarely match in color or wear |
| Sizes & depths | 16″, 20″, 22″ depths; 48″ sections; 36″ endcaps; 54″ and 72″ island, wall units to 96″ | You get what the lot has — you plan the store around the fixtures, not the reverse |
| Delivery timing | Stocked in our Texas warehouse, freight-quoted to your commercial address | Depends entirely on when a store closes; you can’t schedule a teardown that hasn’t happened |
| Reconfiguring later | Add-on units extend any run in 48″ increments, same system, same finish | Add-ons mean hunting the same brand and notch spacing again, often in a different condition |
No hard feelings — here’s the checklist that keeps a cheap lot from becoming an expensive one.
We sell new gondola shelving only, and it’s our own system — designed, powder-coated, and stocked as one product line, not a match for anyone else’s uprights or notch spacing. Practically, that means you spec a floor once and it stays consistent: 54″ and 72″ island units, wall units up to 96″, 16″/20″/22″ depths, 48″ sections, 36″ endcaps, black or white uprights, and slatwall back panels in eight finishes that take standard slatwall hooks and shelves. Every unit ships as a Starter or an Add-on, so extending a run later is an order, not a scavenger hunt. It’s stocked in our Texas warehouse and ships by freight, always freight-quoted, to commercial addresses — we’re B2B only. See the full convenience store gondola packages or the gondola buying guide.
No. Our system is its own design and it isn’t compatible with other manufacturers’ uprights, brackets, or notch spacing. If you’re extending an existing run of another brand, buy that brand used or new — use ours for a full run, a new zone, or a complete refit.
Rarely, as long as the steel is sound and you have the brackets. The one thing to watch is load: badly bowed shelves and rusted base shoes don’t get safer with heavier cases on them. Check those two things and buy the cheap lot.
Our units are stocked in our Texas warehouse, so availability isn’t waiting on a production run. Delivery is by freight and always quoted for your specific address, so we’ll give you a firm shipping picture once we have the layout and the dock or receiving details.
Yes, and plenty of owners do it well — new on the sales floor where customers see it, used in the back where they don’t. What doesn’t work is mixing brands or finishes inside a single customer-facing run. Keep the line between the two at a wall or a doorway, not mid-aisle.
