● WHAT PHONE & ELECTRONICS OWNERS ACTUALLY NEED

A Phone Store Is Two Businesses Sharing One Floor

Most phone shops are running a retail business and a repair business in the same room, and the fixtures have to serve both without getting in each other's way. Retail wants a dense, browsable accessory wall and devices visible under glass. Repair wants a defined bench with tools, parts, and work in progress โ€” visible enough that customers can see their phone being worked on, separated enough that nobody wanders behind it. The stores that feel professional are the ones that draw that line clearly with fixtures instead of leaving repair to spill across the sales counter. The other thing that separates a good phone floor from a cluttered one is how the accessory wall is organised. Customers arrive knowing their device, not the brand of case they want, so a wall grouped by device family lets someone find their whole aisle in seconds; a wall grouped by product type makes them hunt. After fifteen years shipping to phone and electronics retailers, those two decisions โ€” the two-zone floor and the device-family wall โ€” are what we push hardest on.

● LOAD, LAYOUT & SECURITY

Security, Accessory Density, and the Repair Counter

The two-zone floor: sales in front, repair visible behind

Put the sales counter and device cases at the front where customers arrive, and the repair bench behind it โ€” visible over the counter but on the staff side of a physical barrier. Customers want to see the work happening; it is reassurance that their device has not disappeared into a back room. What they should not be able to do is reach the bench, where parts, tools, and other people's devices are sitting out. A ledgetop or service counter run does both jobs: display space on the customer side, working surface and storage on yours.

Devices under glass, accessories within reach

Split your merchandise by what should be handled and what should not. Phones, tablets, smartwatches, and premium audio belong in locking countertop or full-vision cases where a customer can see the device and read the specs but a staff member does the handing over. Cases, screen protectors, cables, and chargers should be out on the wall where people can pick them up and compare โ€” that tactile browsing is what drives accessory attach rate, and putting it behind glass kills it.

Organise the accessory wall by device family

This is the single highest-impact merchandising decision in a phone store. Customers know what phone they have, so group by device family โ€” all the iPhone 16 cases, protectors, and accessories together, then the next family โ€” rather than grouping all cases together and all cables together. A customer finds their entire section at once and buys the protector alongside the case instead of leaving with just the case. Slatwall carries this well because hook spacing can be re-set per family as models turn over, and models turn over constantly.

Cable management at the counter

Demo units, chargers, and display devices generate a cable nest faster than anywhere else in retail, and nothing makes a counter look less professional. Plan power at the counter before you place it: route charging cables through the counter rather than over it, keep demo devices tethered and tidy, and give the repair bench its own dedicated power so repair cabling never crosses the customer-facing surface.

The high-theft smalls problem

Earbuds, smartwatches, memory cards, and gift cards are small, valuable, and easy to pocket โ€” the classic high-theft profile. Those belong under counter glass, not on an open wall, even though they are technically accessories. Bulkier items, cases, and screen protectors are fine out on the floor. Keep an unbroken sightline from the register across the whole sales area, and keep floor fixtures low so no aisle is hidden from the counter.

Phone & Electronics Store Questions

Slatwall with hooks sized to blister packs and boxed accessories. Keep accessories out where customers can pick them up and compare โ€” that tactile browsing is what drives attach rate, so putting cases and chargers behind glass works against you. Organise the wall by device family rather than product type, so a customer with a given phone finds their cases, protectors, and cables in one place. Slatwall makes it easy to re-space hooks as models turn over.

Split merchandise by value and size. Phones, tablets, smartwatches, earbuds, memory cards, and gift cards belong in locking countertop or full-vision cases at the counter, where a staff member does the handing over. Cases, screen protectors, and cables can stay on the open wall. Keep an unbroken sightline from the register across the floor and keep island fixtures low so no aisle is hidden โ€” that is the cheapest loss prevention available.

Run a two-zone floor: sales counter and device cases at the front, repair bench behind it on the staff side of a physical barrier. Customers should be able to see the work happening โ€” it is reassurance their device has not vanished into a back room โ€” but not reach the bench where parts, tools, and other customers' devices sit. Give the bench dedicated power so repair cabling never crosses the customer-facing counter, and keep a clean surface for intake paperwork.

A locking countertop or full-vision case run for devices, a service or ledgetop counter that separates sales from the repair bench, slatwall for the accessory wall with hooks for blister packs and boxed goods, wall cases for behind-counter inventory and repair parts, and gridwall for bulkier items. Send us your floor plan and we will spec it โ€” layout help is free with a fixture quote.
